“After investigating the concept of ceremonial vessels and altar pieces for the last twenty years, this body of new work represents a return to my potters “roots” of making large pots. The Drums are a result of investigating hand made clay instruments for a class I was teaching. This exploration took me to many beautiful African pottery forms and textures, and this led to a personal adaptation of these aesthetics to fit a modern context.
I see these pieces as timeless. They could fit into a medieval context as easily as a contemporary, or futuristic setting. From cauldrons to jars that could be suspended from the ceiling, one is supposed to imagine the purpose.”
